Insider Tips for Wedding Dress Shopping

Well it's finally here, Bridal Season! Here are a few expert tips that should be taken by any newly engaged bride. If you have already been a bride, share this with all your engaged friends!

1. Do Your Research- Nine months to a year start collecting photos of dresses. Start noting certain styles of fabrics you like. Try to in vision what you want to look like on your wedding day.

2. Book Your Boutiques- Call a month ahead for Saturday reservations. Allow an hour and half for your appointments. Arzelle's tip: Make your appointment on the weekdays, it is less crowded!

3. Select Your Style- The date of your wedding and the setting really influence the style of your wedding dress. Example: If you have a beach wedding, you won't be wearing a silk satin ballgown!

4. Try It On For Size- When trying wedding gowns on wear the appropriate undergarments. If you are planning on wearing Spanx on your wedding day, then wear Spanx when trying on wedding dresses.

5. The Gown- When shopping for your dream wedding dress, bring only two or three relatives or friends with you. Wedding dress shopping can actually be a bad experience if you bring too many people with you. It can be counterproductive when there are too many opinions about the dress. Consider professional help, and ask the consultant to pick a dress that they think would look good on you. While it may be tempting to bring all your bridesmaids and family members, it is much better for the bride and her wedding dress shopping experience.

6. Take The Plunge- Purchase your dress at least six months in advance to allow shipping and adjustments. Our dresses at Arzelle's only take 14-16 weeks to come in, but you need to allow time for alterations and bridal portraits.

7. Don't Show Everyone Your Dress!- You want everyone to be stunned when they see you on your wedding day, only let a few close people see your dress before the big day.

Hello from New York!

After the first full day of bridal market, I can gladly report there are so many beautiful gowns out there, we will have a hard time making choices to bring back to Nashville !

Paloma Blanca has really out-done themselves this time with their beautiful belts. I saw belts everywhere I went today, but no one except Paloma Blanca has individually hand-beaded designs on silk dupioni bands. I'm in love!

Oh, and Paloma Blanca's Spring 2012 collection is to die for! It is so hard to select the best from this line...they are all georgous!

Not every designer gets it right, unfortunately.

Thought I would show you a couple of 'misses', although the ombre crinkle dress at left has potential...not so sure about the 'umbrella dress' below!

And for all our winter brides, I'm bringing home inexpensive, cute wraps to keep you from shivering! Can't wait for you to see them!!

There may be times when searching for your perfect dress that you fall in love with certain aspects of different dresses. At times, you may wish you could take two parts from one and add it to one part of another so you can see your dream be a reality.

Here at Arzelle's, we know this feeling all too well! We have decided to take a few of our dresses and show you beautiful brides, how you can use just a little imagination and a darn good alteration to make any dress be what you always dreamed of!

In this case, we took a Paloma Blanca gown that was originally a fit and flare silk satin dress with a neckline ruffle and vintage broach and went all the way with its old Hollywood style. We added an off the shoulder fur and popped on a pearl and rhinestone encrusted belt with its original broach in the center.With this dress, we took the very simple yet cute vineyard style and glammed it up! By removing the straps, sweet-hearting the bust line and adding a centered, rock-star belt, the only thing left was to throw on a champagne colored stone necklace by Haute Bride and we had a whole new look!
Here, we took a lace and net trumpet gown by Mikaella and simply added a tattered floral sash on a champagne ribbon and scattered rhinestones. we also had the pleasure of adding a pearl and swarovski necklace by Haute Bride to give it that vintage glam look
Now if you are the type of girl that loves to make a statement, then this is the transformation for you. Dont be afraid to take a bold dress and add a bolder touch. If it says "You", no one would expect anything less! With this ruffled masterpiece by San Patrick by Pronovias, We ditched the shoulder strap, sweet-hearted the top, added a fabulous sash and an even better necklace!
Bold, meet fabulous!...This dress by Watters and Watters along with our imagination, helped us turn this gown from super sweet to super chic. We added a black pearl and rhinestone necklace and cinched up a wide set black satin ribbon with a mega chunky vintage broche in the middle of a fluer tied bow. In the second picture we ddecided to go even more "throw-back" by adding a chic off the shoulder bolero!

Figure Fabulous! This dress by San Patrick by Pronivias is a hugger! It weighs all but 1.5 lbs. and has a tattered net skirt. We decided it might be fun to scrap the shoulder strap, sweet-heart the neckline, add a too cute tattered tulle flower sash and pop on a tulle retro halter. It shows off the natural waist, brings broad shoulder in, and accents the bustline! If you're not sure how you want to look on your wedding day and cant commit to one theme then this adaptation is the dress for you!

Two of the designers we carry had the opportunity to sketch their vision of Kate Middleton walking down the aisle. On the left side of the picture is a Watters and Watters detailed ballgown with a long alencon lace sleeve and a cathedral veil. Wrapping Up NYC Market

We had such a great time in New York City for market! Sorry we are just now posting; there is just never enough time in the day! We can't wait to get all the fabulous merchandise in here for you to see! Here are the highlights of our final two days.
Sunday we began our morning at Erica Koesler, where we found some beautiful jewelry, veils, & headpieces. This Swiss dot birdcage was too cute to pass up & the pearl headpiece is a definite show-stopper!

Then it was off to Pier 94 for the afternoon. Our first stop: Grazia, Grace, and Salon shoes. The styles were hands down the most beautiful we saw anywhere & the new shoes are exceptional! Grazia's round-toe pump with the cut chiffon ruffle is bound to become a best seller for us & the platform with the gem is an instant classic!
At Harrison-Morgan we found this beautiful Mongolian lamb vest. What a stylish accessory to keep you warm in the winter months!
Up next: the Watters & Watters show. And as always, it looked great! The bridal was full of soft feminine fabrics & beautiful full lace silhouettes. The bridesmaids and flower girls were as cute & sassy as ever.
Then it was off to Haute Bride to meet with our friend Lindsay! There wasn't much we didn't love in their whole showroom; we just adore this line! It is here we spotted an upcoming trend: colored vintage jewels in necklaces, bracelets, or even in rings (for the right hand of course)!

The rest of the day was busy with appointments at Pier 94, but we were able to manage to fit in a few moments to run through the American Girl Doll Store & to watch the ice skaters at Rockefeller Center! It's always fun to be in the hustle & bustle of the city!

Monday morning we set off for 7th Avenue & Marisa Baratelli. Where we found the most amazing cocktail gowns for our mothers! With so many colors & so many styles it was a treat to choose the line for our store.

After Marisa, we were off to spend the afternoon at JLM. Where we saw several fantastic lines. As always, Jim Hjelm bridesmaids were beautiful & they had coordinating necklaces for several of the styles! Loved it! Lazaro was absolutely stunning & had a couple fashion forward styles. And finally to Alvina Valenta to see our friend Katie. It was, of course, fabulous! They had the most beautiful & ornate belts for their gowns! We fell for this fully beaded silk satin ballgown.
The trip was an absolute success! With lots of fabulous accessories & many gorgeous dresses purchased, we just can't wait to get them in here for you to see!

Fabulous First Day in NYC

We can hardly contain our excitement! Day one at NYC bridal market was full of fantastic finds. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city we were able to accomplish much & find so many great things we just know you will love! We started out the morning looking at a new company and some new accessories. The embellished belts were phenomenal & this vintage necklace was absolutely gorgeous! Not to mention all the beautiful feathers & flowers we picked out just for you!
Then we were off to Paloma Blanca & Mikaella. We can't even describe how fabulous the lines were this season. Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you Fred for always taking care of us!

We just couldn't help but fall in love with this rabbit fur stole from Dana Stein. The Tiffany blue ribbon is our absolute fav! You'll have to take our word for it; it's a little hard to see!

On our walk to one of the fashion shows for the evening we saw this beautiful bride outside St. Patrick's Cathedral. How fitting to see an actual bride while we are at market!

The Ines Di Santo show was breathtaking. The construction of the silhouettes & the exquisite beadwork are like none other. Here are a two of our very favorites.

Via taxi we went to see our final show for the evening. Jewel by Priscilla of Boston was worth the trek! It was fresh, chic, & fun. See for yourself; we can't wait to get these gowns in the store!

The finale for the evening happened while we were grabbing a bite to eat. We happened to be sitting across from Mark Ingram. Wish you could see him in a picture, but we freaked out & took a picture of our cheese tray instead! Haha, it's definitely been a great day!

An Arzelle's First

It is not too often that we have a chance to meet the groom. Let alone, meet him first. Yesterday, we had a groom come in with a very specific plan. His girlfriend was coming in to try on wedding gowns with their family and he was going to surprise her. You see Andy & Ashley have discussed marriage and are planning on April of 2011. However, Andy had yet to propose. Due to some upcoming travel engagements, Ashley was going to have to try on gowns without her ring. Andy was not about to let that happen & surprised her with a proposal right here in the store! It was so exciting to be present for such a special moment in two people's lives. Congratulations Andy & Ashley! We are so happy for you!

The Golden Age of Couture at the Frist Center was amazing! Girls night out last night was just what the doctor ordered. We were exposed to all the greatest fashions and we realized how so many evening gowns look like present day wedding gowns! It's true, there is nothing new under the sun. The textures, the silhouettes, and the colors are all found in the bridal industry today! How cool? These fashions were from the 1940's and 1950's! It truly was a once in a life time experience and we soaked it all up. If you get a chance to go, it will be worth your time. The last day of the exhibit is September 12th. The past two weeks have been like Christmas around here! Except, it's August. We have received the majority of our bridal gowns from the Fall season. We have just started to receive the Fall 2010 lines from Paloma Blanca & Mikaella. The first dresses to arrive have been absolutely gorgeous! Take a peek at the first three to grace us with their presence:
Paloma Blanca Style #4116 is a beautiful combination of elegant satin and whimsical ruffles. And even though it is a natural waist ballgown, it still manages to be extremely figure flattering. We cannot say enough how much we are infatuated with this dress!
Mikaella Style #1504 is a beautiful Grecian empire gown. The super soft English netting drapes ever so gently and the beaded band is the perfect compliment.
Finally, Paloma Blanca Style #4105 is a Chantilly lace keyhole gown. Extremely versatile, this style would be appropriate for anything from a outdoor affair to a formal ceremony. The anticipation for this dress has been almost too much to handle! We are soooo thankful that it is finally here!

In celebration of the 4th of July, we would like to share the story of one of our current brides. Meet Sarah, a 20 something bride-to-be with her fiancee over seas.
Meet her fiance Joey, Sergeant Martin to be exact. Joey is stationed in Baghdad.
Sarah and Joey met long ago when Joey was a senior in high school and Sarah was in 8th grade and best friend to Joey's little sister. Having a very obvious crush on her best friend's big brother, Sarah was like most giggly 8th grade girls. After years of no contact and a little growing up to be done, Sarah got on Facebook one day to wish her old friend a happy birthday when who do you know would see her? Sergeant Joey Martin of the Unites States Army National Guard. They hit it off right away and immediately enjoyed getting to know the people they had become.
As you probably know, a romance quickly ensued. Unfortunately, Joey's Uncle Sam had other plans for their new love. Joey was whisked away to serve his country on January 5th of this year. But fate lent them a sweet hand when Joey got leave for four days. After a very little time to find a lot more love, Sarah had the saddening duty of taking him to the airport and into harm's way. Joey could not let her walk out of the terminal without making sure she would be his to come home to. He got on one knee and told her that he wanted her to be his wife. He needed to know that they would spend the rest of their lives together. Sarah agreed!
Opening themselves up to a bittersweet engagement, Sarah started her planning and as luck would have it, became one of our very cherished brides. Sarah and Joey spend a large portion of their disposable income to pay for expensive internet hours so they can see each others faces on Skype every morning while Sarah gets ready for another day. They even meet again in the evenings despite the extravagant time difference.
Sarah and Joey are truly deserving of each other and we can't wait for them to exchange vows on the beach after Joey finally comes home to her on Christmas.

Truly Touching

Eight years ago we were able to be a part of something really special. We had a request from a dying mother to be able to watch her baby girl try on wedding dresses. At the time her daughter was only 19, so she was not actually engaged. When they came in, although the mood was somber, the mother and daughter were able to have that special moment. That moment where the bride and her mother connect with each other through the dress. The dress she had on was a Lazaro.

This past weekend we were visited by a recently engaged bride, who had already tried on before! While her mother was not here, she was accompanied by several loved ones. The mood was one of excitement, joy, and happiness. On Saturday, she was able to find the gown of her dreams. Coincidentally, it happened to be a Lazaro. We have a feeling her mother had a part in that!

We are truly touched that we were able to be a part of such a wonderful moment, and very proud that we are again going to be part of her life! Congratulations Amy!
